A PROTECTED NATURAL ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL TO ENJOY

Cap Nature Pierrefonds-Ouest borders the largest protected natural habitat on the Island of Montreal, that being the eco-territory of the eco-forest corridor of the Rivière à l’Orme, a 1,000+ hectare zone that’s more than four times larger than Mount Royal Park.

The area’s diverse ecosystems include wooded areas, grassland, fallow land, swamps, woodland, two marshes, and two streams. These natural environments are home to several rare floral species and many animal species.

Ducks Unlimited, a non-profit wildlife-preservation foundation, intends to enhance the wetlands that will be managed by the City.

To enjoy the outdoors, all residents from the area and elsewhere will be able to bike or walk safely along a network of multi-use paths that encourage active transportation.

A VIABLE ENVIRONMENTAL-PROTECTION PROJECT

Multiple environmental studies by the City of Montreal, provincial government, and several independent experts have shown that the protected habitat contains a diversity of animal and plant life that will ensure its sustainability for generations. The Cap-Nature Pierrefonds-Ouest project must be authorized pursuant to the Quebec Environment Quality Act.
